Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Description

Ace Attorney is a franchise that every fan of the visual novel genre loves. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney on 3DS is a controversial game because it received mixed opinions. The game is practically like every other Ace Attorney game, but darker and more mysterious than previous installments. It can be affirmed that it is a great game that comes with good gameplay, an impressive soundtrack, and a surprising story.

Gameplay

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is like any other Ace Attorney game, where you investigate a crime and find evidence, then battle it out in court with that evidence.

This game is no different, and this is the last mainline Ace Attorney game to use the old investigation style, whereas Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice use a different, more linear style of investigation.

The investigation in this game is just like any other game, and that’s a good thing. Investigation in Ace Attorney yields humorous and interesting results, as well as fascinating discoveries.

The trials, though perhaps forgettable, the game also features a similar mechanic to Phoenix Wright’s “Psyche-Locks,” where Apollo Justice uses his bracelet to detect if witnesses are hiding anything. You also get to play as Phoenix Wright on one occasion, though that occasionally leads to a “stop-wall.”

Overall, the gameplay in this game is good, just like any other Ace Attorney game. Capcom also added a few new features to keep the game “fresh.”

Soundtrack

The Ace Attorney franchise soundtrack always has good music. However, I believe Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has a better soundtrack when it comes to the court sections. I like the themes for “Two Sides” and Ema Skye, and all that, but the investigation themes aren’t as catchy as other investigation themes. And the character themes this time around are a failure.

However, when it comes to the court sections, things get really good. “Overtaken,” “A New Era Begins,” and “Telling the Truth” are all great and driving tracks. The courtroom lobby and defense themes are also insanely good. Even the cross-examination songs are good. I prefer the court themes of the original trilogy. I think the original “Pursuit” can never be surpassed as the best Pursuit theme, but “Overtaking” is my second favorite Pursuit track (besides the 2004 version). Although I like the court themes in this game, I still prefer the investigation themes of the original trilogy, as they are catchier in my opinion.

Overall, this game has a fantastic soundtrack, and I believe it is one of the best soundtracks in a DS game, alongside Pokémon Black and White 2 or Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story.

Story and Characters

Some people like the story in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, while others consider it shallow. I believe Kristoph Gavin is one of the best villains Ace Attorney has ever had. You see, he was Phoenix Wright’s “friend” before things went sour, and he’s the reason Apollo Justice even met Phoenix Wright. However, he turns out to be the bad guy in this whole thing, and Apollo has to take down his own mentor, who became his enemy.

Overall, the story of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is surprisingly good, and I stand by that opinion when considering these points.

Summary and Review

In summary, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney has good gameplay, a fantastic soundtrack, and a fairly deep and interesting story. It suffers from a lack of truly lovable characters and memorable trials, but I believe the positives outweigh the negatives in this game. Download its original ROM via the link below and play it to verify what I’ve said in this article. Have fun.
